The terms for using Bunshu

Last updated 5 October 2026

These terms cover bunshu.com and, from launch, the Bunshu apps for iPhone, Android and the web (together, "Bunshu"). By using Bunshu you agree to them. They're written in plain English; if anything is unclear, email us at bunshu@ninkigenstudio.com.

1. Who we are

Bunshu is made by Ninki Gen Studio (UEN 53527055X), a sole proprietorship of Lim Ying Min registered in Singapore, at 60 Paya Lebar Road, #11-22, Paya Lebar Square, Singapore 409051. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Ninki Gen Studio, and "you" means the person using Bunshu.

2. Before launch

Bunshu is estimated to launch in early 2027. Until then, bunshu.com describes the app and keeps a waitlist. Joining the waitlist creates no account and costs nothing. The rest of these terms apply to the apps once they're available.

3. Who can use Bunshu

4. What's yours

Your cards, decks, notes, recordings and the materials you upload are yours. We claim no ownership of them. To run Bunshu we need your permission to store, copy, sync, process and display your content, for you and on the devices you sign in on. You give us that permission, and it lasts only as long as we need it to provide Bunshu to you.

When you publish a deck, rate a deck or write a review, you also give us permission to show it publicly, in the app and on bunshu.com, and to let other people add copies of a published deck to their own libraries. Copies people have already added stay theirs, even after you unpublish.

You can export everything, free, at any time, in formats other apps read. Nothing you made is deleted because you stopped paying.

You're responsible for having the right to everything you put into Bunshu, especially anything you share or publish.

5. What's ours

The Bunshu apps, the website, the design, the name and the shipped decks we made are ours, or used with their owners' permission. You may use them to study and to share decks as Bunshu allows. You may not copy, resell or reverse-engineer the apps, or use Bunshu's name in a way that suggests we endorse you.

6. AI drafting

Bunshu can draft cards from material you give it, fill in vocabulary cards and turn text into spoken audio. When you use these features:

7. Fair use and misuse

Don't use Bunshu to break the law, to defraud or spam anyone, to infringe someone's rights, to harass people, or to interfere with Bunshu's security or other people's use of it. Don't scrape the shelf or access Bunshu by automated means we haven't offered.

Bunshu has limits that keep it fair and affordable: an account holds up to 100,000 cards, and Plus's unlimited AI is subject to fair use of 60 drafts, 2,000 vocabulary cards and 3,000 generated clips a month. At a fair-use limit, further requests wait for the next day. We may change these limits; we'll never lower them for work already done.

8. Sharing, reports and takedowns

Shared and published content is checked automatically before it goes public. Anyone can report a shared deck, a review or a profile. When a report says a deck breaks these terms, the deck is hidden while a person reviews it, and the outcome is shown in Activity. If we find a breach, the content is taken down, and the cards found in breach are removed from copies other people added; if we find none, it goes back up. The author may appeal a takedown once, within 14 days, and the answer to an appeal is final. We may pause publishing for an account that breaks these terms repeatedly. You can block another person at any time.

If you believe something on Bunshu infringes your copyright, email bunshu@ninkigenstudio.com with the content, its location and your claim, and we'll act on it.

9. Plans and payment

10. The service

We work hard to keep Bunshu working and your data safe, but we provide it "as is". We don't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, and we may change or remove features. Studying works offline, and you can export your cards at any time, so a break in the service never locks you out of your own material.

11. Liability

As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data you could have exported. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for Bunshu in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit, or your rights as a consumer.

12. Ending

You can stop using Bunshu at any time, and delete your account inside the app. We may suspend or close an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, for non-payment, for fraud, or to protect Bunshu's security or other people. Where we can, we'll tell you first and give you the chance to export your cards.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for a change that matters we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Bunshu after that, the new terms apply.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction over any dispute.
